7 - Childbirth Education Class - 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Humboldt General Hospital will host a Childbirth Education course designed to help mothers-to-be achieve the kind of birth they desire. Women in their fifth to eighth month of pregnancy are encouraged attend. Fee for instruction is $60; women who deliver at Humboldt General Hospital receive a $10 discount. Lunch and snacks are included in the cost of registration. Optional Lactation and Newborn Care classes are also included in the cost of registration. Childbirth Education instructor Becky Egbert will lead the discussion. Mothers and coaches are encouraged to bring a couple of pillows and wear comfortable clothing for the instruction. 10 - Lactation Class - 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Humboldt General Hospital will host a Lactation Class in the Sarah Winnemucca Conference Room. Learn from our lactation educator, Becky Egbert, about the natural process of breastfeeding, lactation, physiology of the breast, positioning, identification of infant feeding
cues, nutrition and storage of breast milk. Fee for instruction is $25; class is free to women who participate in Humboldt General Hospital's Childbirth Education class. Please call to pre-register at (775) 623-5222, ext. 142.

11 - Alzheimer's Support Group - Noon

Alzheimer's can be a very taxing disease for both the victim and the caregiver. Join caregivers and patients in the HGH conference room the second Wednesday of each month to learn effective coping strategies. Lunch is provided for all participants. All ages are welcome and there is no charge to attend.

12 - New You! 12-Week Wellness and Weight-Loss Workshop - 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. / 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Humboldt General Hospital has introduced a 12-week plan for optimal health entitled "New You! The 12 Lessons of Wellness & Weight Loss." The course will run from January 12 through March 29. Choose to attend instructional sessions each Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. or from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The course will take place in the Sarah Winnemucca Conference Room at Humboldt General Hospital; there is no charge to attend. You are encouraged to take part in the entire 12-week curriculum; however, do not refrain from participating if you can't attend each session. The program will kick off with "Do You Need to Lose Weight?" on Thursday, January 12. Participants will also be invited to take part in a 12-week weight loss challenge. This class will cover feeding, sleeping, diapering, circumcision and umbilical cord care, bathing and dressing. Parents-to-be also will learn about temperament, crying and comforting techniques, behavior states and newborn communication. Life can be stressful. Join Annie P. Perkins, LCSW, to discover how to equip yourself with the tools you need to manage the changes in your life in the most effective way possible. Held the fourth Monday of each month in the HGH conference room. All ages are welcome and there is no charge to attend.   

25 - Bariatric Support Group - 6 p.m.
Humboldt General Hospital's Bariatric Support Group will meet in HGH's Sonoma Room. The group is designed to help both pre-op and post-op bariatric patients. Group members and their supporters will receive up-to-date weight loss information, consider issues in the context of the disease of obesity, and have the opportunity to discuss personal or professional issues that arise from the consequences of bariatric surgery. Guest presenters may be invited to present some topics. All sessions will include time for questions and social interaction. Significant others are encouraged to attend. Facilitated by Laura Nelson, LSW. Held the fourth Wednesday of each month.

Join Humboldt General Hospital's Radiology Department as it unveils its new full-field digital mammography machine. The morning will include a continental breakfast, tours, giveaways and information. Visitors will also be invited to participate in the hospital's "Wall of Hope" by posting the name of a fighter or survivor.
