Humboldt General Hospital is on the hunt for old photos of its facility.
    The photos will form part of a history wall presentation at the hospital's new medical office building. Original photos are needed; paper copies cannot be used.
    Humboldt General Hospital Community Education and Development Director Nicole Maher said the project is in greatest need of photos from the late 1800s and early 1900s, especially from the earliest beginnings of the facility.
    Maher said the first county hospital, built in 1884, was located at the far end of Second Street in what was once the Joseph Ginaca family home. Those with contagious diseases were housed at the county pest house about a mile away. 
    "We are in greatest need of period photos from those two locations as well as the Gables," said Maher.
    The Gables was a sanitarium, which was built on Lay Street (now the Gables apartment building) for surgical patients. 
    Maher said old photos of the original Humboldt General Hospital on Haskell Street, which opened to patients in 1908, also would be welcome.
    "This hospital enjoys such a long, rich history," said Maher. "We would love to have photos to complement our display."
