Humboldt General Hospital's Walk-In Clinic has announced a change in its schedule beginning Monday, May 16.
The clinic, which is located at 211 Aiken Street, in downtown Winnemucca, will now be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
Humboldt General Hospital CEO/Administrator Jim Parrish said the expanded hours are an exciting change for the clinic.
"We have been listening to our community and trying to meet their needs," he said this week. "We are really pleased to be able to expand our hours and to offer Saturday medical care as well."
Parrish said one of the reasons medical expenses tend to be so high is that many individuals find themselves in the emergency room for non-emergency illnesses and injuries.
"The reality is we need a walk-in clinic to help treat a variety of ailments that don't need emergency care, especially when our doctors are unavailable," he said.
All ages are welcome for minor ailments such as cough/colds, flu, sore throat, ear infection, allergies, rashes, urinary tract infections, athletic injuries and more.
Those experiencing chest pains or true emergencies should go immediately to the Humboldt General Hospital Emergency Room located at 118 E. Haskell Street.
Parrish said HGH provides clinic patients' personal care doctors with a report on their visit, including diagnosis, treatment recommendations and a list of any medications that were prescribed.
